This was a military weapon and I assume the design went thru some extensive testing which inclded many rounds being fired.

If the safety design was weak I would think the flaw would show in testing that's why I am thinking a bad metal batch for the safety.

Are they the same years with close serial numbers?

Yes they are both dated 1976 and the serial #s are only 476 #s apart.
These were ordered from century arms U-Fix-Em's Anybody know how century decides which ones to send if you don't pay more for hand pick? Looks like perhaps they have them filed some how by serial #s? In the future would it be wise if I want to order more than one, to send in two orders at different times and I may not get two guns with the same problem? Has anyone else ordered more than one and get the same thing wrong with both?

Hand pick is usuallly the best of the next 5 in the crate if they are all pretty bad you get the best of the bad..
