Uses main springs for recoil spring or hammer spring
clocks and watches have main springs in them , fire arms don't
So the MSH (main spring housing) in my 1911 houses what?
LOL
Peace,
D.

The reason its called a MAIN spring housing is because it is the MAIN housing that contains a spring...secondary and tertiary spring housings have yet to be located...

Yep, learned that in English in high school--we were discussing whether a rose by any other name really would smell as sweet! LOL! but as long as my clip doesn't interfere with my main spring, I won't worry about it...

Actually the 1911 does have a main spring in the main spring housing.
It might also be known as the hammer spring but the correct terminology in 1911 nomeclature is mainspring.
Both Ed Brown and Wilson Combat sell mainsprings and personally I won't argue with either of these two high quality 1911 makers.
Just an FYI

I must be a newbie also
a clip holds the ammo that feeds my weapon
a magazine is something I bought when I was kid(long long long time ago) to look at the pictures not read the articles..

Thanks, NORM SUTTON
I am almost 58 years old and have been around firearms most of my life. I learned at an early age the correct terminology associated with firearms by example from experienced men that I knew and by others that I knew only from reading books and periodicals (note that I did not say magazine), such as Rex Applegate, Bill Jordan, Pete Dickey, Col. Jeff Cooper, Skeeter Skelton, Massad Ayoob, etc. I also learned correct English in school. It should not be surprising, however, that because incorrect terminology and slang has become common useage, that the older I become the more I use terms such as grips instead of stocks, clip instead of magazine, pistol instead of revolver, automatic instead of semi-automatic, gun instead of rifle, etc. BUT IT STILL DOES NOT MAKE IT CORRECT!
