it was there when I got it but the best part is when it gets a little sun(or light) it becomes reflective.. that really helps these eyes too

Mine came with white on the sites already also. Its a 96 model. I looked at another at Aim and noticed that their most recent batch does not have the whited sites, or at least the one I looked at did not. It was dated in the eighties, can't remeber exactly. Could be, older versions don't have painted sites.

one of mine came with the white sights the other with the stock black front blade. I ended up changing the front sight to a HiViz sight with interchangeable rods. Shooting at the indoor range the white caused my old eyes too much glare. The Hiviz orange rod seem to be easier to see for me.

My "81" has the original black front and rear still, but I painted the front blade with"White-Out" and that helps alot, especially on dark targets. I'm looking at some different options for it eventually.

Very nice find, mine was a factory refurbish that the owner put night sights on, he needed $325.00 and I picked up my second SIG. Very accurate shooters, nice and flat, $259.00 is a steal.

Here's a link to SIGforum regarding feed ramp design change that may be necessary for feeding hollow points on the early models.
You should send your barrel to
http://www.customizedcreationz.com/ and let them polish your barrel and correct the feed ramp. The P6's had a different feed ramp angle up until 1989:
"We checked our drawings and found out that we change the angle of the barrel ramp on the 14th of June 1989 from 52 degrees to 54 degrees.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
With best regards,
Ralf Vanicek
Produktmanager SIG SAUER"
The 54 degree feed ramp is suppose to correct the problems with hollow point ammunition.
