9X18 Makarov brass

Has anyone resized any 9mm luger brass to work with a Makarov?I noticed that the diminsions are pretty close and it seems to me shortening the brass and putting it through a resizeing die it should work.

and thats all there is to it. BUT....since 9 luger brass is smaller than Mak brass you have to run it into the 9 mak belling die. put in a bullet, take to the range and when you fire it, it will fireform to 9 mak dimensions. I have 1,000 rds all ready to go. One crevat tho....get a drill and a Lee trim/shellholder cause I used a Lyman Accutrimmer and believe me after 50 cases you may or may not be able to open or close your fist ;D ;D

I did a few, but trimming a whole mm off the length is too much work for this wimp! I just buy new Starline brass from MidwayUSA and call it a day

Trimming down 9x19 luger worked good for me. I used the Lee trimmer and gauge. Chucked it up to my Dewalt drill and went at it.

I picked up about 600 cases at the range, got lucky all them were shooting Win white box, so I went with that. Cost $0

Lee trimmer and gauge shellholder. Cost about $9

Depending on which brand of brass you use (I suggest sticking to one brand) You may need to take off a couple thousandths off of the circumference of the gauge. Otherwise it may not fit into the case mouth. This took me about 10 minutes. Chuck up the pointy part of the gauge in your drill, spin and sand down with 600 grit sandpaper wraped around the back side of a razor blade to keep it square. Do this and keep checking and measuring till it fits. With thin walled brass it may not be necessary.

Meister bulllets delivered $.04
CCI small pistol primer $.02
HP-38 or titegroup less than a penny

Equals about $3.50 per box

so far I've tried about 60 rds
2.5 gr HP-38
2.8 gr HP-38
3.1 gr HP-38

All functioned flawlessly. Good luck

Thanks guys, I went to Cabela's this week and bought the Lee trimmer and gauge holder. Tried it tonight for the first time and it worked just like you said it would. I haven't shot any yet, but everything looks good. Later Don

One thing that I found worked well when I tried it was to buy a 9x19 pilot and remove 1 mm from the tip that goes through the primer pocket ... it was easier than trying to remove a couple of mils from the diameter of the correct length 9x18 pilot.

i have the same Lee trimmer and i have cut lugers down and it takes awhile w/out a drill. I could only get the 9 luger guage so i drilled into the base of the shell holder and it lets the guide pin go that extra mm. they work fine and i will soon try some trimmed luger cartridges. G

use a lee trimmer too but just on the first case then I put the trimmed case in my Lyman case trimmer then adjust the case trimmer to the case I'm trimming then start trimming cases

this is the fastest way I could come up with 20 years ago been doing it this way ever since ( different drill) (lol) same trimmer
