My First P-64!!

Post by TheGent »

I went to the gunstore today for just some .380 Hornadys for the PPK/S and I told myself that I wasn't going to look at the guns, promised myself many times. While asking for the ammo I just happened to look down at the gun counter I was standing in front of  The word "MAKAROV" caught my eye at on the slide of a gun. I scanned. "P-64". "May I take a look at the P-64?" The clerk handed me the gun. I turned it over "1969", looked at the price tag of $150. After a trade for a used Bersa Thunder .380 I ended up paying $25 + ammo for an excellent condition P-64. No wear at all. Next stop, the gun range. Can't say much for the DA trigger pull except, WOW! You know what I mean. At 15 yards I was able to put a 2" grouping on the target. After 24 shots to get aquainted with her of coarse. Still getting used to the Euro mag release. A very smooth shooter. I am impressed. I don't regret loosing the Bersa for it either. Will pack some custom Hornadys with her for EDC this weekend.

Gent:
I know what you mean. I ordered one out of curiosity and when it showed up I was pleased with it's condition. I took it to the range, fired it, then went home and ordered two more!
Needless to say, I like this pistol.
Yes, the DA trigger is no good. Sounds like most folks put in an aftermarket spring kit to fix the problem, and also new recoil spring. Wolfe sells them. I will probably do this to one of mine to see if I like it. If so I'll do the others.
Enjoy your new toy!

Welcome both of you from Wyoming.
There are very nice and helpful people on this board to answer your questions.

Thanks for the welcome wyo-man.
I'm sure I'll have questions as I delve deeper in to the pistols. All I've done so far is clean, shoot, clean, shoot, clean...well, you get the idea.
I have two more showing up in the little brown truck of happiness on Tuesday. :D

I have been carrying mine for the last three days inside the pants. It carries just like my ppk/s. Love this gun. I wish it had the dove tail the my ppk has.

Thanks for the welcome,

I know what you mean, Gent. Love this pistol!
Been packing mine also. And shooting it. Aside from the DA trigger pull I have no complaints, and even that is not a huge deal with me. I did paint the front sight though. Had a hard time seeing it. I may checker the rear sight also. It has a horrible glare if the sun is behind you. Then again...is it a big deal?
Now I need to spend some money on accessories for it (holsters, spare parts, spring kits...)...rather than ordering more of 'em. :?

I ordered my first from AIM.
Second and third from Wandering Traders, which I found on Gunbroker.
I'm not sure who still has them. They became C&R eligable in Aug and dried up fast.
My plan is to keep checking all the C&R dealers and Gunbroker.
They are a great pistol.
