I was wondering how good a pistol they really are? They look pretty cool and woud be a nice historical piece and a realy cheap price. Thanks, Art.

do you mean 1895 i only have 3 or 4 of em and a lot of us have em here. there are some pictures floating around here some where and comments also

it is an 1895 Nagant. plus they are a tad high but outrageous on the ammo and the 32acp cylinder ,you dont want the cylinder.
there is no such ammo as 32 Nagant the gun is 7.62x38R. you can use some other 32 ammo in it as it is ( NOT 32acp)and a lot cheaper I will have to find some links that tell you all about this fine odd neat fun gun. I love my mini collection.
Alot of other on line dealers sell them for a few dollars more or few dollars less.

Thanks Anjdrifter for the info and a very informative article. I think these revolvers are very interesting piece of history. Who did you buy yours through? Do they all look pretty much the same when you buy them armory restored? Regards, Art.

My first one was from a local shop quite by accident.It also turned out to be the Peter the Great .got one from SOG,one from Aim and one from a guy on gun broker,the last one was the only one that was still in pre arsenal condition.I use that one for a parts(dont need any yet and also to play with as far as testing my handloads .also learned how to redo the hard trigger pull to make it nice and smooth and easy. These guns are tuff suckers and can take a lot of abuse,not that we do that. I call em russian tanks. for the most part I use either 32 s and w long or 32 mags for ammo. either factory or my own reloads. for what these guns cost you couldnt take a wife or girlfriend out to dinner for the same amount..

Interesting that they call it a 1893, I'm assuming thats a typo, my one and only is a also a Peter the Great DOB 1916. Found mine at a lonely table at a gun show a few years ago for $50. Nix also on the extra cylinder also. The Nagant M95 are fun to shoot, most of the Nagant surplus ammo out there for them is practice ammo and not very accurate, 32 longs or 32 mags shoot much better in them, and if you reload save the brass. You can still find Nagant M95's for $80 out there.

I just ordered one of these. What is the best ammo to use in your opinion? Do the cases split or do they fit well enough to reload? I have heard various things about these, that 32 long, 32 H&R mag, and the 327 Federal all work, but how well? Have you tried the Hotshot Nagant ammo?

I have used the Russian practice and the hotshot ammo. But I find the 32 H and R mag give the best results. depending on the brand I have had a few 32 long either swell a little or split.But really without any problems on the ones that bugled up resizing was all that was needed when reloading. None of my reloads have ever(knock on wood) bulged or split yet. Now one problem that does occur with the 32 long is there is a lead and fouling build up in the cylinder. which over time would cause the Russian ammo case to stick . that is not a problem as I clean it up my stuff within minutes of leaving the range. if it does occur a little chemical and a brass brush cleans it right up..

I posted this on another board awhile ago. still trying to find the manual I have for this gun.
I have been threating myself to do a trigger job on one of my Nagants for ever and have been putting it off in fear of messing it up. but since I have three took the most beat up up and said it was time. the process is really simple and rather painless just as long as you take your time.
1. remove left grip and side plate
2 lift out trigger V spring, a little prying while holding everything in place
3. Mic it for original thickness around. .057 to .054 along the length
4. take dremel with a fine sanding drum and smooth the the sides
5.use the dremel and slowly and carefully grind the the lower part of the leaf down.
6. put back together and test.
7. do # 6 a few times to it feels better or you get scared.
8. I stopped at .045(appox.)( it will vary slightly, along the length)) on the the micrometer .
9. smooth any rough edges
10. grease it with purple grease(or any type ) ,lightly
11 put the gun back together and you will have a lighter and smoother trigger pull. At least for the Nagant.
I will most likely trade springs to one better Nagant in future but will leave the 1916 alone. hey it was cold and damp today so it was a good project.

no,imo,some say it might be.. but it isnt really worth it. by the way a 32 mag is almost or is about the same as a 38 spl. and if I load it carefully it is even better. but the question is is it needed. especially in this gun. it wont be carried,at least by me due to size and type. as a truck gun the 32 mag is fine. plus am firm believer in not the power of the shell but placement and then placement and did I say placement.
