How many Utes we got out there?
I've got a nephew out in Midvale that is looking to get into ccw and pistols and was curious if we had any members that might take him under there wing so to speak. I'm back in MI and trying to get him on the right track. Thanks!!

I'm currently located in Murray (next door to Midvale). We have a healthy Concealed Carry and Open Carry community in Utah. To be honest, it might be best to point him to the Utah Concealed Carry forums here. There's a wealth of information there and it's a great place to start looking into CC and OC in UT.manicmechanic wrote:I've got a nephew out in Midvale that is looking to get into ccw and pistols and was curious if we had any members that might take him under there wing so to speak. Of course, if you want to start him on the P64 path and/or other members of the 9x18mm family, send me a PM for contact info and I might be able to arrange some range time with him.

primarchbentaly,
Whats the story with the Utah concealed carry exam?
People in this area are saying if you take and pass the test that your license is good in a large number of states, any truth to the rumor?
Thanks in advance.

Utah and Florida enjoy the highest rate of recognition/reciprocity as concealed carry permits go. As to why this is I'm not sure. I'm just happy that's the case.gunneyrabbit wrote:primarchbentaly,

Utah doesn't make any distinction between Utah residents and non-residents for the Utah permit, but some states do (ie. CO, FL, MI, and NH will recognize Utah permits from Utah residents, but not for non-Utah residents). We who keep an eye on legislation in UT do our best to make sure it stays that way (no difference between resident and non-resident permit).
So, a lot of people who travel will often pick up the permit for their own state, and either UT or FL's to cover a good portion of other states they visit.
I may miss out on greenery (I miss my trees...), but at least I can concealed carry my P64 every day I work, at the University of Utah.

I have a CCW for my home state (WY) and one from (FL) because I travel and some states don't recognize my WY permit while they do recognize the FL permit. The FL permit is also good for 7 years. I am headed to UT for a couple weeks and if there was a course I probably would get that as well (tho not necessary).
BTW, I used to live in Midvale back in the late 70s.
