My P64 is unused as far as I can tell. It shoots very well (accurately) for a gun of it's type. However, the double action trigger pull is not usable due to being extremely heavy. The single action pull actually seems to be on the light side. The thing I am after is a reasonable DA pull and a safe SA pull without sacrificing function. The answer seems to be to replace the mainspring. I see a lot of people replacing the recoil spring. Why? Also what weight recoil spring would be recommended? Thanks

Recoil spring is just to tame the recoil due to the P64's small size. Not affecting the trigger. Some places do sell combo (buy recoil spring, they give you the mainspring) like JG. Maybe a fluke but i ordered just the recoil srping but it came with the mainspring . What Norm and Dickfunk said in other post is to make sure to give the gun thorough cleaning and shoot it a lot. In any case, i might have to try the new mainspring to see if it's still safe to shoot SA with it.

Chuwee81, be careful. The recoil spring from Wolff includes a firing pin spring, NOT a mainspring. They are packaged separately, if you get the mainspring and recoil spring, they will each have their own white cardboard insert telling you the pound rating.


I just swapped the springs in my 64... the worst part of the DA pull is right before it breaks, it seems like it gets far harder and then gives. I put in the 20 pound mainspring to make DA less awful without sacrificing reliability, but it is still rough. I haven't shot it yet (waiting on grips and a mag) but when I do I'll report back.

chances are that's a fire pin spring that came with your recoil spring not a hammer spring

Yes, that is what I recieved with my recoil spring.. Most certainly a firing pin spring!
