Anyone know anything about the Taurus Judge?
It's a revolver that shoots .45 Colt and 410 shotgun rounds. Seems like it would be a great short range HD pistol.
Just wonder how good a "woods" pistol it would be loaded with 45 colt rounds. (Black Bear, Coy dogs).

I think Taurus was marketing this as a car gun, certainly not a woods gun. Have you seen one? They're bigger than you'd expect. A .410 is going to make a black bear mad enough to eat you, and there are lots better, more ergonomic pistols that shoot .45 Colt.
I jumped in here Space because I've had this discussion with several friends. I thought the Judge would have been a nifty idea until I saw one and thought about it's limitations.
Want to shoot .410 and .45 Colt in a small package? ... one of these will take your money:

I took my single shot 45LC..410 to the range today. If the judge is like the comanache, the 45LCs are not that accurate because the chamber is made long for the 410, therefore the 45lc "jumps" into the barrel groves. But the 410 slugs were great. The real surprize was the 2 1/2 " buckdshot (three pellets). They hit center mass at 20yds. I picked up a box of 3" shells on the way home, they have 5 pellets. Using the 410 shot tube, I got a nice tight pattern with #8 shot, should do good up close on small game.

I have wondered how comfortable it is to shoot those large bore and magnum chambered derringers like the Texas and Cowboy Defenders available in .357 Rem Max, .357 Mag, .45 LC and 10mm. I have also seen a different make derringer in .41 Mag. Anyone ever shoot one of these in these chamberings?
Taurus Judge
The largest caliber I've shot in one of those Derringers was .357. Actually it wasn't bad for recoil, and was more accurate than you'd expect. I can't remember the make ... maybe American Arms.

my gun dealer has one, he named it "Wrong f&*^ing Truck" and keeps it in his truck loaded with 410 buck shot", they are neat guns (not my cup of tea though) and are really designed more for self defense guns than hunting guns. (you'd probably destroy a dog with one though)
My gun dealer is also a reserve deputy and chased a perp into a house, he and another officer were clearing rooms He being armed with the judge, the guy eventually gave up saying "DON'T SHOOT ME WITH THAT ROGER RABBIT GUN!"

Here's a better discussion on Derringers. Far better than my old memory.

Still there, just want to be prepared if I find one at the gun show this weekend
Judge would be cool for a car gun and I still need something to strap to my leg when wandering in the boonies where my Cabin is. Doesn't look I can get a two-fer.
I do have a Marlin 1895GS in 45-70 that will handle any nasty critter. It's just a pain to drag around. Would prefer to have something in a holster.

Ooooo ... that Marlin is a very cool rifle. Now you need a good 6-shooter to go with it. Lots to choose from - the Roogers shoot +P; if you get a Colt clone I recommend a good one so it's reliable ... Smith and Wessons ....

Maybe I should get one of these to go with the Marlin

At least I wouldn't have to get different ammo

Just took a another look at the Taurus Judge at their home page, looks like something I would not wont pointed at me at any distance, it's pretty scary looking. The spread form the four-ten at close range is devastating. It may not be a target pistol but they have sure found a niche for it and Taurus makes darn good guns.
