Handsome pistol, misbehaving

Greetings, just got onboard. Being pleased with my E.German Mak, I decided I should get little brother P64. Got a nice hand select from J&G. As recommended I put a new hammer spring on (19 lbs) and went to the range.

About every other mag I was getting a slack trigger which sometimes, but not always, engaged after several tries. I have been reading here and seen it reported, but the solution isn’t clear. What is the order of parts replacement, (disconnector, trigger spring?) and where to get them? It’s a dandy little gun and I’d hate to go to all the paperwork of sending it back. I would never carry something that’s not reliable.

Should I replace the stock recoil spring to balance the new hammer spring? Should I put the old one back and re-test? I can comfortably tear down the trigger mehanism of an M1 rifle, but the P64 internals look a bit complex!

Did it work correctly with the stock hammer spring prior to changing it?

I read so much about the heavy D/A that unfortunately I changed it out before shooting it. Guess I could put the old spring back.

Well I put original hammer spring back in and trigger still does not always reset, just a little less frequent. It seems to happen more after safety is engaged and released. Meanwhile the slide of my pal''s new p64 is still frozen back.

Might help if you do a complete disassembly/break down the internals, and give it a thorough cleaning. The disconnector could be hanging, not allowing the trigger bar to move up and engage the sear. There could be sticky cosmo/gunk or dried up grease on the frame that keeps the part/s from moving freely.

Thanks for that. Pistol seems pretty clean & disconnector free moving. I got one of the better trigger springs, hopefully that will help, just got to study the break down & rebuild steps.
