Affect of lighter hammer spring on mag release?

Post by xcc_rider »

I have Russ's extended mag release but am still having issues releasing the mag.

80% of the problem is the fact I cut off a bit of my thumb (damn table saw) and I dont have the strength or surface area after the joint to properly engage the release anymore.

20% is how hard it is to actuate the release in the first place.

I'm aware of the implications of lightening the spring (lighter hammer strikes & trigger) but I'm wondering if it helped the mag release tension also?

Yes. Generally, we have found that the 17lb Hammer Spring is too light and causes issues in either light strikes or magazine retention. The sweet spot is the 18lb to 20lb springs hence why they are sold in a pak of three so yo can adjust as needed. Also they do cause hair triggers in SA so some people opt to go up to the 19lb or 20lb ones. The standard weight is 24lbs. So any of the Wolff Springs will lighten the trigger pull, and the force required for the magazine release.

That's what I needed to know. Thank you very much.
Looks like I'll start swapping the springs to see which one works best for me.
