New P-64 mods.

Post by makczak »

Hi all,
Thought I should get involved after lurking for so long.
I have some modifications to one of my p64's. to share
Prototype grips and sights.
As my daily carry. Im having fun making improvements to this little powerhouse.
Also just bought a second 1968 that appears unfired or nearly so.
Hope this link works. don't forget to read the narrative under "more" button.

All comments appreciated.

Nice work, especially on the grips they do look comfy.

Thanks. Will do precision machining on the next attempt.
And I almost forgot to report on the "comfy", effect. I was having so much fun smacking steel plates that I almost didn't realize that the felt recoil shock was greatly reduced to that of my other larger grip pistols. The shock seemed to spread instead of concentrate in the web of my hand. Now that I think of it. It felt much like my CZ82. I will do a side by side next trip to the range.

Very slick looking! You took the OEM grips and modified them?

Not sure where I'm going with it at this point. I just ordered a few more grip panels. So it is worth pursuing because I think others will find it of benefit.
My vision is to mold one piece grip frames and machine replacable hardwood insert blanks. To be final shaped by the end user to fit their hand.
Selling is not of much interest. A donation for postage and materials might be appropriate.
Let you know when I get that far.
Anyone of those grip makers out there want to mess with it for profit. I'm willing to consult. Free of course.
My past profession was in injection molding and 3d parametric design.
We'll see how it goes. I have a bunch of work on my plate.
I really appreciate your interest.

Very nice! We need to start a P-64 of-the-month thread on here and vote for the best submission.

sweet! I like contrasting colors of the modded sights the most. Question: are the pieces which were added to the stock grips made of semi-soft or hard material, such as rubber/silicone or wood?

Makczak,

I like the sights. What kind are they and do they shoot to point of aim?

To the grip insert question. They are my first prototype. In plywood. The second ones are almost finished. I used a type of fine grained rosewood and hand checkered. Did not make target grip this time.
I'm thinking of interchangeable inserts to suited your mood or attire for that matter!
Will post my progress.
And the sights are Truglo. #TG110W. It does not shoot to point of aim at all. First time out I was shooting at the 9" steel plate racks. Had to hold over top of target to hit steel somewhere. I feel it is 6" high at 10yds. I'll take my bags and shoot from a bench next time to be sure.
I already have another, lower front sight in mind. Should correct poa /poi enough. Current one will also likely wear a hole on my uncle mike #1 IWB, before long.
I'll keep in touch.
