P64 reliability after 2 1/2 years of use and carry

Post by Thor »

Hi everyone,

I just felt like sharing my experience with my 1974 P64. I purchased it 2 1/2 years ago. When I first recieved the gun it took about 6 hours or so to get all the cosmoline out of it. I replaced every spring in it with standard spec except the recoil spring (20#). I have since fired over 3,000 rounds down range with ZERO malfunctions. I have fired several different semiauto hand guns over the years and, this is the only one as of yet that I have personally seen to be 100% reliable. It is my daily carry and, it will be for a long time.

What kind of ammo are you using at the range and for carry?

At the range I use any that is available which includes, silver bear, brown bear, Winchester, Fiocci, ect. I also burn up some of my carry ammo when replacements are available so, I'm never without which is Hornady Critical Defense.

I use a galco classic lite shoulder holster for the Walther PPK. It's the suede one that is not formed to the gun. To make it work you need to remove the tension adjuster, put your P64 into it with the thumb release closed and, your gun snug against it you then reinstall the tensioner where it fits. Durring break in the leather will relax a bit and, it will quickly become a perfect fit.

Here is what the holster looks like with the tension adjuster relocated.

I also have 3 cheapo holsters that I don't remember the brands of for when the shoulder holster is a poor option. 1 pocket, 1 IWB and, 1 ankle (only used this one once. Ankle holsters suck)

Nice to see a review of an EDC after some time.
Thanks.
