magazine problems

I am new to forum and new to P64 ownership. Just cleaned/lubed the gun, opened the 3 mags that came with the gun and cleaned them well. Then out to the range to test. Only one of the three mags worked flawlessly.
Two of the three had a jam on the second round (the round turned sideway and did not chamber the round). I was able to drop the mag and eject the round. Was using Silver Bear ammo bought from SGAmmo, so I think the ammo is not the problem. Anyway I was seeking a bit of help.
1. Is this common?
2. Should I discard the two mags which did not run and buy new mags?
3. Where should I go to buy (online) magazines that might be dependable?

Otherwise the gun did great on the one mag that ran perfect.

I'd start by visually inspecting them for bends and wear. If the lips are bent from being dropped, for example, you might be able to fix them with some basic hand tools.

ok, thanks for the suggestion. Close visual inspection did not reveal any bends, wear, dents or dings in the two questionable mags.

I will perhaps reclean and try again. After re-cleaning, should I use a light coating of gun oil or rim oil inside the mag?
Any idea for the best place to buy dependable mags?

Take a look at the spring in the mag that works and make sure the other 2 mag springs were oriented the same when you reassembled them after cleaning.

I have had problems with feeding in other mags if the springs are in backwards.

Any source of reliable factory mags. My P64 made in 1977 if that makes a difference.

gunbroker and eBay seem to turn them up every now and then. There are also a handful of on-line dealers that sell them, such as SOG.

Checked the springs in the two non functioning mags, they were oriented the same as the one functioning mag.

Recleaned and will test again later in week.

Bought two mags from SOG (thanks for the referral to Snailman) Received them quick, cleaned them up and out to the range. Happy to report the two mags ran perfect so the problem was two of my original mags.

Good news, I wonder if the mags you have problems with are aftermarket.

The two original mags which would not run, look to be old surplus original, not after market. They have the serial numbers electro penciled on them...they look no different from the onces that work fine. It's odd. I am going to stretch the mag springs and try them one more time before I give up on them. But I now have three working mags and that was the goal. I am a Happy Camper now.

Good idea on stretching ths springs, if they work then you can order new springs.

Also you can try a different brand of ammo.

Good news, I wonder if the mags you have problems with are aftermarket.

As low quality as the material is in the aftermarket mags, they are actually cut with precision and work very reliably. My only gripe is the metal is not as sturdy as the factory originals, and you can actually see bullet shaped dents from the inertia of the bullets as they slam into the mag during recoil. The lips also bend easily. Nevertheless, they do function flawlessly. I use them only at the range, and figure I have a spare spring, floor plate, etc.

Nope. Those are for a 1935. Wolff doesn't carry any magazine springs for the P-64. I'd check "gunbroker". There's a guy in Warsaw who has a gazillion parts for P-64s.
