early and late magazines

Post by fully machined »

What do I need to look at on the pistol to see if it uses an early or late magazine? I guess there is some difference with the pistols? When did this magazine change take place. I have read here that the latter magazines will not work in the earlier pistols without modifying the magazines. Why exactly will they not work? I am trying to get the "low down" on it. :) I have not posted in a while and have a mint 1969 on layaway.....missed yall......

Not sure what differentiates "early" from "late". My P64 is a 1972. I've bought several extra magazines without regard to their age. All work and all look the same, to me.

I was going to make a crude wise-crack about my P64 apparently being a "ho", but I'll refrain. 8)

Not sure what answer you want, you've asked about this before, and been given an answer.

If you spend a couple minutes search around (it's called a google box) you'll find some of the other changes that were made during the year of 1972:

They key is whether you have an older style hammer or the newer triangular style hammer.
