Slide stuck open

Hi all,

Yesterday, after shooting about 90 rounds through my P-64 the slide locked/jammed back after the last round. I could barely more the slide and the mag was difficult to remove.

In better light at home, I could see that the ejector/slide stop was jammed against the bolt face preventing the slide from moving forward. I pushed down on the ejector and it moved a little and seemed to allow me to pull the slide back a little more so I could remove it. It's back together now and seems to function fine manually.

Could the cause have been that the recoil spring was installed large end first? Forum search hits seem to indicate this. I'll admit I didn't pay much attention to that the last time I cleaned it.

Could be the problem, now that you have it on right another range session is in order.

Let us know how it works out.

I have the same problem, and I have neither fired nor disassembled this pistol. It's new (to me) from SOG.

If I bring back the Slide a little, release the Magazine, and yank it out, then the Slide releases.

But it's quite difficult to do.

If I were relying on the next magazine to keep the bad guys at bay I'd be toast.

Cat I would remove the slide and see if the spring is on right and do a complete cleaning.

I will do that - good suggestion - thanks !

In the meantime I oiled it up pretty good, which helped.

Then I remembered that earlier today I thought the Grips were a bit loose, so I had tightened them up. Not too much.

Now I loosened the Grips again, and now the Magazine slides in and out easily.

Is this typical ?

Did you try loosening the Grips ?

It helped me, though I am not comfortable with this "solution".

The grips are plastic, and the frame is open, meaning the grip plastic rubs up against the magazine. If the screw is too tight, the grips deform inward and squeeze the mag.

The screw should be just tight enough to where it won't come loose, and the grips are snug and not moving. But the mags should slide in easily.

I believe you are right. As a Mechanical Engineer I am not pleased with this solution, but it IS the Solution.

(Ok, every item ever designed has a flaw or two. That's reality. The P-64 is still very nice.)

I had the same issue with a CZ82, but loosing the grip screw on the left grip a quarter turn resolved it.

Old thread, I know. Got here because my P-64 experienced a similar problem today after about 50 rounds of Fiocchi ammo. Slide was locked back tight, so tight it felt like it was welded open. Like zark said, when I got it home I could see that the slide stop had somehow gotten lodged on the bolt face and the slide couldn't move forward or back. Unlike zark, I couldn't move the slide stop at all, couldn't wiggle it, nothing. Finally in desperation I applied a brass drift to the muzzle end of the slide and gave it a moderate whack to rearward. It immediately unlocked and now cycles normally.

Glad you got it fixed. I'm wondering if you or any of the others that have had this problem, if they have original or aftermarket springs?

Welcome to the forum Tyrone, thanx for posting your fix, good to know.
