+1 Ketch. My thinking exactly. If it's that tight you may need to disassemble the safety unit to get all the gunk out and clean up any burrs that may be present. Soaking it in mineral spirits worked for me to get the cosmoline and gunk off my Bulgarian Makarov. Gun Scrubber is also a good product.

Was it working as it should before you replaced the hammer spring? If so, then the problem may be with the disconnector, sear, hammer & hammer strut. Make sure that the parts are aligned/installed as the should be. One way of checking is to take off the slide (hammer needs to be cocked) and then...

Re: Another 9x18

Thanks Curly. Yours is a nice one as well. It looks nice and clean. Are those custom made grips? I'm always wondering about the differences in the roll marks. Mine has the Cal. 9mm in script/italics and "Made In Hungary" in San Serif. Yours just has PA 63 on it. Were the ones issued to the...

Re: Another 9x18

Thanks buddy. The import marks are in fact on the rear of the trigger guard on the right side of the gun. I should have clarified it by saying that the slide is absent of those annoying import marks that we see on these types of guns.

Another 9x18

Just added a new 9x18 to my stable. It's a 1975 FEG PA63 in all blue. Traded in the P64 for it since the 64's SA trigger was to light for me. I had replaced the P64 with the FEG SMC-918 which Curly likes a lot. It doesn't have any import marks on the slide, they are on the rear of the trigger guard ...

Re: General Cleaning of P64

If it's covered in cosmoline you are going need to do a detail strip and get that junk out. I used Mineral Spirits on my Bulgarian Makarov but my P64 wasn't covered in it. I gather that you have other guns as well. I use the same products on the P64 that I use on my other guns. Gun Scrubber is a goo...

Re: Polish iron grips still available?

Image to the club. Lots of good info on the P64 here. Just ask away. The PI grips add some girth to the grips but are nice and do help with recoil. You may also want to consider the extended mag release.

Re: Mainspring/hammer question

Man rob, you hit it right on the nose. That SA is too light for me to consider the P64 for CCW. Even with the stock springs it is still to light. I don't know if mine went thru some sort of trigger modification. For example the SMC-918 , which is essentially the same thing, has a much safer SA and i...

Re: Gun decocks upon racking the slide

I agree with Nick on the strut assembly being the culprit if like you said it happened when the safety wasn't engaged. Glad it's fixed. I also carry one in the chamber and safety on. My problem with the P64 is not the DA action but that the SA action on the follow up is way too light. It's why I car...

Re: Gun decocks upon racking the slide

If the safety is engaged, that is the lever is pointing down, the hammer will decock if you rack the slide. As for the hair trigger SA, I too have that issue even after going back to stock recoils and hammer springs. Makes me very leery of carrying it and why I'm looking to sell it.

Re: Magazine pinky extension

In the 1st picture the black ones are for the P83. The one on the right belonged to someone called Wojtkowiak The brown I got with the P64. They are bigger than the one for the P64. In the 2nd picture the black one is for the Bulgarian Makarov. Still bigger than the brown one that came with the P64....
