Sight Enhancement
Yup, Sykes & Fairbairn found that in an extreme stress situation, your instinct is to look directly at (and focus on) the threat. In a close-up, quick-draw encounter, sights are not used. It sounds weird, but it's amazing how well it works with a bit of practice.

What does your P-64 do?
Right now it lives in the safe. I've been making all the recommended improvements, the latest being an increase in hammer-spring power from 16 to 18. It was spitting out magazines with the 16. As soon as I'm convinced that it's perfect, it will replace my Kel-Tec P3AT in my front pocket.

Replacing the mainspring for lighter DA pull
I went to the range today with my new 16 pound spring. Good news, DA is wonderful. Bad news, magazine kept falling out. Guess I gotta try the 18 pounder. The prospect of wrestling that !@#$% spring again was frankly, depressing. I'm trying to picture some poor person on an assembly line wrestling th...

Shooting your P64
I've shot Wolf FMJ, Hornady XTP and Barnaul HP. The one I was most worried about was the Barnaul "flying ashtray," but it was perfect, just like everything else.
As they say, commie ammo for commie guns. Oops, that's probably not the PC thing to say on this forum!

Any markings inside your P64 Holsters?
We hear that the P-64 was designed by a group of Polish Army officers.
Do we know anything about them? Are any of them still around? Are they household names in Poland, like Browning and Kalashnikov are over here, or did they quietly disappear back into the Army, once the project was done?

Trigger Bar popped out - HELP please!
Speaking of Staying Put. I tore into my pistol again this evening, this time for the mainspring swap. After a goodly bit of rough handling, I noticed something odd. The triggerbar didn't fall out. It used to fall out really easily. Then I noticed; The Grease. I'd greased that bad boy like a peanut b...

Replacing the mainspring for lighter DA pull
I did the Wolff PPK mainspring swap today. With all due deference to to Dickfunk's excellent instructions, I'd like to recommend a couple extra steps: After you've got the grips off, cock the hammer, and you'll notice a small hole in the hammer strut, right where it pokes through the mag release. Pu...

Trigger Bar popped out - HELP please!
Well, I just went through this character building experience myself. My solution was to get a couple small nails, use one nail (from the triggerbar side) to lift the spring. Then, I used the second nail to come in from the other side (under the slide stop) and hold the spring up, at which point I co...

What's a 10 pound spring?
Abwehr: Lazy, no. Smart, you betcha! I'm a civil engineer, my idea of fixing something is to bury it in concrete. In my world, when things move, it's a bad thing. Moving parts make me nervous, so I'll leave it to the Wolff pack to figure this one out for me. No spring swapping for me. Novgarod: I've...

My response to P-64 snobs
I don't know why people are that way. I've got both, I like 'em both. In fact, I shot my P64 for the first time today. The Big Mak is now my second favorite pistol! I've heard that the P64 has some nasty recoil, but I didn't think it was any worse than your typical 9mm.

P-64 jams
Define "jam." Stovepipe, double feed, failure to eject, something else?
How much shooting did you do before it started having issues? Did you ever clean it? Did the problem start before or after you did or didn't clean it?

What's a 10 pound spring?
Very interesting. Now I think there are three systems: spring rate, what it takes to mash it 85%, and what it takes to rack the slide. :-/ The difference in approach leads to the following situation: Consider a spring, 10 inches long, with a spring rate of 10 pounds per inch. To an engineer, it's a ...

I haven't tried it in my P64, so I don't know how well it works.

What's a 10 pound spring?
I've been following the various spring discussions with some interest. I'm beginning to wonder if there's a difference between what an engineer means and what a gunsmith means when they say "10 pound spring." To an engineer, it means that every inch of compression is going to cost you 10 p...
