They have different mags. The post will work with the pre and the pre will not work with the post.

Yes, you do have to make the two ends flat or you will have problems getting the slide off.

They key is whether you have an older style hammer or the newer triangular style hammer.

There is a little pin in the rail channel. Watch that sometime they come out a little and can catch the slide on the way down.

Has it been cleaned of the casmoline it was shipped in? Could be crud in the detent spring that hasn't been cleaned out yet..

These do not have a transfer bar safety if that is what you are talking about.

If you watch how the spring seats in the back you will notice that a flat one drops down into a better position.

You should square off the ends of all the springs so they look like the originals. Also watch out for the hammer spring washer.

The wolf replacement recoil springs end in round coils and it does help if you file them flat like the original. They will then sit better.
