Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

Typically the FMJ 95 grn. Mak .364 bullet starts to tumble after initial entrance and really make a mess of the good stuff inside. Every combatant I put down with one in South East Asia was not a happy camper when it hit him. Lots of screaming and yelling. By the third hit, it gets quiet.

Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

I got Silver Bear JHP all over here in TN. Goes for around $12.00 a box of 50. I have not hear anything about it being discontinued. I have a few boxes laying around here somewhere I received the other day http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=157040236#PIC But then again, I like S&...

Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

Tell that to the 2.6 million Japanese civilians that got to see Atomic Weapons up close. All things considered, I would rather be toasted with a Nuke that to be blown apart by convetional High Explosives to bleed to death. In my opinion there is no such thing as a humane way to kill another human be...

Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

There are many opinions indeed. Mine is based on first hand knowledge and personal experience. I am not saying it is the best or the worst. I have seen it work on several occasions. I also would never rely on a single shot either. If I ever have to use a pistol in self defense, I will fire two and t...

Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

My personal opinion is that the .45 cal handgun is the worst that can be used for self defense. Single action and totally unreliable. That is why the military went away form them. That said, ball ammunition is all I use. S&B 95 grn FMJ for carry and Silver Bear or Brown Bear for plinking! The au...

Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

Hey JT, Yeah I am up and going at it already here in the shop. I have a 1911, piece of junk, that needs the plunger tube restaked back on the frame and another not going bang. I suspect rust and crude in the hammer spring chamber as usual. Typical Browning design flaws. That Brown Bear stuff should ...

Re: Safety assembly "cant"

Thanks for the pic of the broken safety. My safety is still intact and that particular piece is not broken off. I just pulled the slide off and took a peek in it to double check. Didn't remove the safety again because my fingers aren't recovered from putting it back together last night. I appreciat...

Re: Safety assembly "cant"

My first blush is that the safety fit is not correct in that slide and that is why it is out of proportion. Mass production and years of use are most likely the cause.

Re: Safety assembly "cant"

Off topic, my rear sight is a bit to the left more than I'd like it. It affects my shots past 10 yards or so. I have tried whacking it with plastic and brass punches with no luck. Should I try heating it and then whack it, maybe using a little penetrating oil? dfunk your cutout sure does have a sli...

Re: 9x18 jhp vs. fmj

Me again with another poll... I have been thinking a lot about what ammo to carry for SD, as of right now I have been using a combination of silver bear JHP & FMJ. The first round in the chamber is a JHP the rest is FMJ, I guess the theory behind this first shot knock the BG down and the rest f...

Re: OC vs. CC How do you carry?

Tennessee permits open carry anytime. We are issued a handgun carry permit and you may carry any handgun you own any way you want to. I like it conceal it to avoid looks and questions from the general public. I also like having the Ace in the Hole if things go sideways. Sometime a visable gun can cr...

Re: I purchased a P-64 in excellent condition.

Brownells Oxpho Blue and 0000 steel wool and with patients you will have a thing of beauty. I totally strip the P 64 and bead blast all the parts then I put them all on a buffer then 1500 wet and dry paper. Once everything is polished like glass, then they hit the blue tank. When I get them back to...
