silver bear ammo - corrosive ?
Steel core is just a type of bullet... the core is steel and not lead. Not all steel core is designed for piercing armor, that depends on if the steel is hardened, how it is shaped, etc. Most military ammunition made for the 7.62x39mm was loaded with the Type M43 bullet... a 123gr. steel core bullet...

silver bear ammo - corrosive ?
If you want me to chime in... No, it is not corrosive. The primer? It is not reloadable with American primers (boxer), but if you can find berdan primers you can reload it even though it is steel cased. Not much else to say. It can have a funny smell to it, and leaves more fouling than say Brown Bea...

Loading with the safety on
I have never done it, and like someone else said, I never use the safety. I've used it to de-cock before as I try to avoid dry firing, but that is about it. Few questions... why does racking it with the safety on damage the firing pin or decocking mechanism... and second, does excessive dry firing p...

The mag in my 64 is aftermarket... no problems, even with HP (though I really didn't shoot much HP to test).

P-64 TRIGGER PULL IMPROVEMENT
Wow... and here I am happy with the 3 pound SA pull! I am used to match triggers, and decided to just carry DA. I put in the 19 pound spring- because I was worried about reliably firing each round and also about firearm recoil. Remember- cocking the hammer is part of what slows the slide down for ea...

P64 Help
Well, I shot it today!!! Good and bad: The gun kicks a bit, but functions 100%. I tried Silver Bear, Brown Bear, some Czech S&B copper washed stuff in 24 round boxes, 6 rounds of Silver Bear HP, and 12 rounds of Hornady HP. The bad, was in the oil. I had loaded the Silver and Brown in Makarov ma...

PA-63 and P-64?
I own both, and I would go with the PA-63- although I have not shot my own 64 yet. The PA-63 fits my hands and points beautifully, and is also lightweight. My suggestion? Get the 63, get a Wolff recoil spring (max weight) and hammer spring (their middle option for weight) and install them. I you lik...

silver bear ammo - corrosive ?
Thanks for the correction on Primer compounds. I just finish a case of .45 acp from the 30s btw. Checked J&G they list the silver bear as non-corrosive. They are reputable. A while back several sites were selling 70 or 80s surplus 7.62x39 (brass cased /boxer primed yugo I think) ammo. J&G w...

Wolff Spring Issue
The Wolff spring is too long... springs have two fixed lengths, their length when not compressed and when compressed. It is shorter when fully extended, but not when compressed. Easy solution... grind, file, sand down both rounded ends of the spring until they are flat. I just did this two days ago ...

silver bear ammo - corrosive ?
No, it is not corrosive. All currently produced Russian commercial ammo uses lead fulminate (non corrosive) instead of potassium fulminate (corrosive, potassium is a salt and likes to attract water into the pores of metal, causing rust). Mercury fulminate hasn't been used in primers since the 30's (...

Chuwee81, be careful. The recoil spring from Wolff includes a firing pin spring, NOT a mainspring. They are packaged separately, if you get the mainspring and recoil spring, they will each have their own white cardboard insert telling you the pound rating. I just swapped the springs in my 64... the ...

Don't forget, you have an added bonus when going with the XD in .40. The Glock .40 S&W, can not use higher pressure self-defense loads (like those offered by Buffalo Bore), because it has an unsupported chamber; and the Glock also can't use lead cast loads, because of the polygonal rifling. Too ...

I recommend GunKote, or moly resin. VERY tough finishes, leave Duracoat in the dust. I have a few AKs that have the moly finish, and you can safely use brake cleaner or even harsh solvent on them without hurting them. They hold up against scratching and wear very well, and even better, you can pick ...

One large gun dealer in Tampa was selling 9x18 for $40 for 50 rounds! Selling, or just listing? :o I'd be amazed if they actually sold any! Thankfully, it is available everywhere online... I have some old Czech (non-corrosive) copper washed ammo, as well as the MKS copper washed stuff in plastic ca...

Dis-connector
I'm gonna go ahead and ask...
Take off the right grip panel, and see if the bar going from the trigger to the hammer group is loose. I thought my P-64 may have had a damaged disconnector or improperly installed one, but the trigger spring wasn't properly put on the trigger bar.
